Transvaginal Mesh is used in women to treat Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Stress Urinary Incontinence, as well as various other medical conditions. Transvaginal Mesh is implanted in the vagina and used to create a Transvaginal Sling used to help reinforce the vaginal wall.
The FDA issued a Safety Alert July 2011 discussing the complications of Transvaginal Mesh. The alert was targeted towards health providers, doctors, surgeons, and existing Transvaginal Mesh patients or those contemplating undergoing the transvaginal mesh operation.
The FDA communication for all medical providers was intended to alert them that Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) as well as Stress Urinary Incontinence also known as SUI were symptoms associated with known complications.

| Bleeding | Chronic vaginal drainage | Emotional problems |
|---|---|---|
| Erosion of the vaginal tissue | Feeling as though something is protruding from the vagina | Infection |
| Lower back pain | Mesh Erosion | Neuro-muscular Problems |
| Organ Perforation | Pain during intercourse | Perforations of the bowel, bladder or blood vessels |
